Rover Marine vs Saturn, Newport Vessels and Intex: What the Price Gap Buys

Rover Marine vs Saturn, Newport Vessels and Intex

Budget and mid-price inflatables can look the same in a photo. Here is what Saturn, Newport Vessels and Intex publish, and what the price gap to Rover Marine buys.

We compared the closest 10 to 11 ft models from each brand using their own pages on October 25, 2026. Two of the three beat us on price and maximum horsepower. The difference comes down to warranty, floor and how you plan to use the boat, so here are the numbers.

Saturn shows a struck-through "list" price about double its sale price. We quote only the price it sells at.

Where Saturn and Newport lead

Saturn's 11 ft dinghy lists a higher motor limit (15 hp), more load capacity and a lower sale price than a 10 ft Battle Boat. Newport's 10 ft 6 in boat also lists 15 hp, five people and 1,248 lb. If you want the most load and horsepower per dollar, both are worth a look. Saturn also offers an upgraded Triton fabric with a three-year warranty.

Where Rover Marine differs

Three things set Battle Boat and Battle Cat apart on paper. Warranty: 5 years on the hull and 3 on tubes and seams, versus 2 years from Saturn and Newport. Floor: a 10 PSI drop-stitch floor, while Newport uses plywood and Saturn does not state a psi for its air floor. Layout: Battle Cat gives you a dual-pontoon catamaran in the same 8 to 12 ft sizes and with the same warranty. (Saturn also sells a 9 ft 6 in catamaran we did not review.)

Reading the warranty fine print

Saturn's policy covers base fabric and seams for 2 years, with coverage starting only after you register. Rental or commercial use is limited to 90 days, and UV deterioration is excluded. Newport's 2-year limited warranty is non-transferable, covers original owners in the Lower 48 only and excludes improper UV protection. Rover Marine's warranty excludes punctures from use, abrasion, dock rash and normal wear. Whichever boat you choose, the exclusions matter as much as the years.

What about Intex?

The Excursion 5 ($224.99, 55 lb) and Mariner 4 ($369.99) are low-cost recreational boats rated for far less power than the others here (Excursion 5: 1.5 hp). Intex's product pages did not state a boat warranty, so check the owner's manual. They suit occasional calm-water use at a very low price. They are not like-for-like with a $2,000 drop-stitch boat.

Know your water. Battle Boat and Battle Cat are built for lakes, harbors, bays, coastal water and yacht-tender runs, and owners take them on open water too. Match the boat to the conditions, your load and your motor, check the forecast, and carry the safety gear your waters require (life jackets, a way to call for help, oars and a pump).

How to decide

If price and power per dollar matter most

  • Saturn or Newport for load and horsepower
  • Intex for a cheap boat on calm water

If these matter more, look at Rover Marine

  • Longest published hull and tube warranty
  • 10 PSI drop-stitch floor
  • A catamaran layout in 8, 10 or 12 ft

Questions we get

Why is Rover Marine priced above Saturn and Newport?

We list a 10 PSI drop-stitch floor and a longer hull and tube warranty. Whether that is worth the difference depends on how you plan to use the boat.

Do Saturn boats have drop-stitch floors?

Saturn's 11 ft and 12 ft dinghies list high-pressure air floors, which are drop-stitch. Saturn does not state a psi for them on the pages we reviewed.

Is Intex a good alternative?

For occasional calm-water use at a very low price, many people use it. It is not comparable in power, capacity or warranty.

What should I check before buying any of them?

Motor limit, capacity, warranty exclusions and shipping cost. Read our insurance and registration guide.
